Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks [ISSB]

Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks [issb]

Are you planning to build a classic home in a cost-friendly manner?

Well, you may wish to consider using Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks (ISSB) instead of the conventional stone bricks.

ISSB are made from the soil and stabilized with cement. The blending ratio will be majorly determined by the level of soil shrinkage. At Glittering Diamonds Ltd, we test the shrinkage of the soil for you at no cost. We recommend using the soil on site unless the shrinkage disallows it due to the obvious reasons, for avoiding breakages and transportation costs.

A standard ISSB measures about 266mm x140mm x100mm and weighs about 8kg when wet and 5kgs when fully dry.

The colour of the block heavily draws from the colour of the soil used.

All ISSBs made from our machines are tested for strength and durability by the Kenya Bureau of Standards and the University of Bath, UK. The results show that our ISSB are 82% stronger than a clay-fired brick. This dispels any concerns about the strength and stability of ISSBs.

Interestingly, using ISSB reduces the cost of building a house by almost 50%. This is because there is no mortar used in joining the bricks; the blocks interlock with one another. The costs of internal finishing are also reduced since plastering becomes greatly optional unlike in conventional buildings.
